OUR HISTORY
Cardiff Women’s Aid formed out of the feminist movement, when the first refuges that were ran by women activists provided the only safe place for women and children who were escaping violence in their homes.
Our founding grew out of the second wave of feminism and the women’s liberation movement, which helped to mould the organisation’s founding mission and values that still hold true today.
As a social justice organisation- and one that believes in equality- we know that ending violence against women and girls is as the forefront of creating a more equal and safe world for everyone.
We are proud members of, and actively engaged, in the latest iteration of the women’s movement. This stands wholeheartedly against sexism, misogyny, racism, homophobia, xenophobia and all other structural inequalities built into the patriarchal and heterocentric structures that continue to direct the world’s resources, set it’s laws and influence the customs that affect us all.
our mission
Cardiff Women’s Centre and Cardiff Women’s Aid exists to end the act of Violence Against Women and Girls (VAWG). We work to prevent violence, abuse and the subsequent harm done, as well as provide services that meet the needs of survivors, particularly women and girls.
Our work is holistic, comprehensive and empowering, by working alongside survivors to achieve independent lives that are free from violence and abuse.

OUR VISION
A world where women and girls live their lives free of all forms of Violence Against Women and Girls, and by doing so, achieve their full potential, independence, freedom, and liberation from oppression.

OUR APPROACH
Our vision is to create a world where women and girls can live their lives free of all forms of VAWG. By doing so, they are able to achieve their full potential, independence, freedom, and liberation from oppression.
We take a holistic approach to supporting women in our service, looking at her strengths and passions, alongside the intersections of oppression and disadvantage she experiences.
